Note: For this side quest, you must have at least three Elemental Spirit Guardians.
As you are walking through the town of Samui Rei, your eyes are drawn to the window of a decrepit old antique shop. On display is a statue of an Elemental Spirit Guardian...you'd recognize it anywhere, although you can't place which one it is. After a moment's contemplation, you go inside.
“Ah, come in, child!” says a voice cracked with age. An elderly man stands before you, beckoning you to sit in an old rocking chair. You hesitate, wondering if the antiquated chair will even hold your weight, before sighing and doing as bidden. “Here, here, I'll get you some cocoa, and a treat for your Pokemon.”
“No, that's...” you start to protest.
“Oh, but it is an honor to serve someone who is helping the Guardians!” The man disappears into the kitchen, scurrying back with a mug full of steaming hot cocoa and a kettle of tea, which he pours for himself after sitting down Indian style across from you. “Drink that down, it'll get some heat in you. And while you're doing that...” He pauses, taking a big gulp of tea before continuing, “I'll tell you a story.”
“Umm, that's okay, I think I'll be going...”
“Nonsense.” He gives you a big toothless grin. “It's relevant to your journey.
“Now, let's see...many, many years ago, before Pokemon trainers existed, there was a great war between the many different Pokemon elements that threatened to tear this world apart. In those days, Mew had only created the legendaries and a few other strong Pokemon, such as Dragonite and Tyranitar, and there was nothing to keep them in check. Mew tried to lessen the devastation, but there was only so much that it could do.
“That was before Mew met a young Dragonair named Nanami. I believe you've heard of her?” He smiles at you as you nod, then takes another drink from his cup of tea and continues. “Nanami tried her very best to help Mew, but unfortunately, she was killed, caught in the crossfire of a legendary battle. Mew, respecting Nanami's sacrifice, came to the battlefield and brought Nanami back as a spirit. It then took one of Nanami's tail gems and used it to form a clone for every element. Their forms were altered enough that none of them could ever evolve into Dragonite, but it was a small sacrifice for ultimate power in every element. Mew put the Guardians in charge of keeping the balance between the elements in check.
“I believe that Nanami's jewel still exists. There is an old abandoned house on a hill overlooking the town. It's rumored that it's haunted, but I don't know about that. I do know, however, that there is a gang of thieves that uses it as their base, and I believe that they have the jewel. I would go myself, but I'm old, and I gave all of my Pokemon to my children and grandchildren years ago, all of whom have since moved away. Please...if you could bring me back that gem, I will reward you greatly.”
