Title: Poetry Contest
Joan - March 28, 2005 04:31 AM (GMT)
Our newest contest is... a poetry contest! To enter, e-mail your poem to me at dragonairs.den@gmail.com by April 10. Be sure to include your username somewhere in the e-mail so I know who you are.
At that time, all the entries will be posted anonymously by me and everyone will be able to vote on them until April 15. Then the winners will be rewarded.
Your poem can be any type of poem and it does not have to be about Pokémon. Each member can submit up to two poems. There is just one very simple rule; all poems you submit must be written by you.
Plagarism = automatic disqualification.
And now, what you really want to know about... the prizes!
1st prize: :shinytrapinch: Shiny Trapinch
2nd prize: :zangoose: Zangoose
3rd prize: :marill: Marill
Even though you can submit two poems, each member can only win one prize. For example, if the same person won 1st and 3rd place, they would get the 1st place prize, and the person in 4th place would get the 3rd place prize.
So start writing and good luck!

Do we really have to e-mail you or do we have to reply to the topic? Please Reply to this question as soon as possible.

Yes, I want everyone to e-mail them to me so that when it comes time to vote, I will post all of them and no one will know who wrote which poem. You don't have to reply here to enter, but people can ask questions about the contest here.
And yes, it can be a limerick or any other type of poem.
Oh, and one little rule I forgot to mention: plagarism = automatic disqualification. But I doubt we'll have to worry about that. I know you're all smart enough to write your own poems. ;)

Yes, you can enter 2 poems.
I forgot to mention one more very important thing; when you e-mail me, make sure you include your username so I know who you are. If you've already sent your entry to me, don't worry, I figured out your username by looking up your e-mail address on the site. But it would be more convenient for everyone to include their username from now on.
I think I've included everything this time...

Does plagarism mean having rude stuff in the poem?
Clara - March 30, 2005 11:25 AM (GMT)
Plagarism is when you copy other peopls work, like when you are copying well known poets poems...
Example:
Plagarism:
'To Be Or Not To Be,
that Is The Question.'
Obviously, the above is just a quote from William Shakespeare Hamlet, but copying word for word is plagarism, now the next one is just from the top of my head and I am NOT going to enter it...(No Plagarism please)
'There once was a bloke called Bob,
Who went to the Pub for a shot,
He fell to the floor,
Hit the door,
And never got up again.'
That sound sad and yes I made this up as quickly as I could but it wasn't copied from anyone else work, word for word...hopefully...
So you get it now???

Well, it would be too bad for that person I guess. Not trying to be mean, but it wouldn't be fair if I made an exception and allowed one person to enter their poem after the deadline.
I got your entry, if that's what you're worried about.
If anyone's not sure whether I got their poem - if you think you might've sent to the wrong address or something - PM or e-mail me about it and I'll let you know if I got it.

On April 10 I'll post all the poems and everyone will be able to vote on them until April 15. Then the winners will be rewarded.
Latios999 - April 8, 2005 12:35 AM (GMT)
Joan are we allowed to vote for our own poem? What if someone votes for thier poem several times?

Members will be able to vote on their own poems, but it won't be possible for anyone to vote on a single poem more than once.
On April 10, I'll set up a forum and put each poem in a separate post. Each post will be a poll where you can give the poem a rating from 1 to 5. The poem with the highest average will win.
I don't know if I explained that very well, but it'll make more sense when I put up the poems.
Greengrouden - April 8, 2005 02:41 PM (GMT)

Yes, I got it. And I'll probably make the entry time shorter the next time we have a contest. I didn't realize 2 weeks would last so long... :pikasleep:
Latios999 - April 9, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
Can you vote for more than one poem?
Joan - April 10, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)
Yes. You'll be able to give each poem a rating from 1-5.
If anyone is thinking of entering but hasn't sent in their entries yet, there are only a few hours left to get them in.
Joan - April 10, 2005 05:03 AM (GMT)
Entries are now closed and all 13 entries have been posted. You can vote on them until
Friday, April 15. You can find the poems in a forum called
Poetry Contest Entries. Right now you can't reply to the topics, but you will be able to after the prizes are awarded.
