Title: The best idea since sliced bread (Probably).
Description: Yes, it's that good.

Another great idea from Charizard38

Right. I have an idea which will (roughly) bring back the old (easier) sprite system of Dragonairs Den, but without re-uploading everything as smilies. Here's how it works.

In the Admin CP, there is an option under administration entitled 'Manage Word Filters'. It's intended to replace bad language with a replacement (such as [censor]) of your own. However, we're going to abuse it.

Firstly, set it to replace
CODE
:sprite:

with
CODE
[IMG]http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u301/dragonairsden/

This is the 'base' URL for the DD photobucket account. Then, you simply write in the pokemon name, and (if applicabl) it's colouring. For example, rwbshellos. Then, set a similar word filter to replace:
CODE
:/sprite:

with
CODE
.gif[/IMG]

Tld you it was smart. This means that we'll have a simpler system for putting in sprites. Clever, eh?

Post your comments and improvements please, I look forward to hearing them.

Why not just put the .gif[/img] without the :/sprite:

That makes it less confusing, doesn't it? I wouldn't have a clue though.

If it's not against any IF rules, then it's a good idea.

Becuase :/sprite: is easier to remember. I'll think about that though.

You 'could' just make [:sprite:] be replaced with one default tag.. in example..

CODE

[IMG]http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u301/dragonairsden/dragonair.gif[/img]

And then replace dragonair with whichever Pokemon to make it only one command.

Yeah, that's what I thought because it's too confusing.

Charizard38 - August 3, 2007 07:19 AM (GMT)
I'm confused about Tabz's idea. It's probably to simple and obvious for me to comprehend. If it's to bring (according to the users) the whole system back in it's entirey, by replacing, say :rwbshellos: with the whole URL, that could get complicated. I think Joan has better things to do than put in around 1000 word filters (480-odd normal, 480-odd shiny, 20-30 neodex and gd knows how many items).

Hows about to bring the old system back, we use a simpler system:

::rwbshellos/::

A double colon, and a slash double colon. Meaning that it could be done before my 18th Birthday (which is in 5 years time), yet it's almost as simple.

Or... you could just deal with it :P after all . Get the base url code and add the name of the pokemon. I.e. ShinyMagikarpM (shiny magikarp male) although I am sure that it has a sprite already uploaded on the site

:shinymagikarp:

yup xD

But yeah. It is simple to make the pokemon appear that you want just -

Yes, but this would make the system easier. And I dunno 'bout you, but I think that easy is good. What could take literally 20 seconds for you could save a lot of effort for us.

Angie - August 3, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
Err, I don't get what you're trying to say.

You're contradicting yourself, first saying that you want her to enter in all the the images into the filter, but yet you're saying you want her not to?

Charizard38 - August 3, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
That's not the message I was trying to put across. I probably didn't write it right.

Tabby - August 4, 2007 12:24 AM (GMT)
You're not understanding what I was saying Charry. I didn't mean to make a word filter for EVERY sprite. I meant make just ONE default one.

When you typed :sprite: you'd get the default code for a url image - Then you could replace the name of THAT image with the sprite you were wanting to use. Am I making more sense now?

Angie - He didn't want ALL of them in the filter - He wanted the two commands to make it sort of like a normal tag. [tag]information[/ tag] so that you would not have to type the entire code out every time or hunt for the base url. MY suggestion was to do it with only one tag, and edit the inner information since that's all you'd be changing though now that I think about it that 'may' require either entering the post, and then re-editing it or previewing the post and editing it again. I've not much experience with word replacement filters.

Oh, I think I get it. But I think you might be right with the re-editing part.

Hawkstorm - August 4, 2007 05:01 PM (GMT)
Yes, it would be easier, but I think I have tried it and it didn't work for some reason :o

I might have done it wrong though, I am not the best at codes and stuff x3

Charizard38 - August 4, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
The only reason it wouldn't work is that if the board processes IMG tags before word filters, which actually makes sense, as a default word filter might edit the URL. It might not though. I hope it works :XD:.

Angie - August 5, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
Thanks for clearing that up, Tabby.
I appreciate it.

Hei-Ying-Shih - August 6, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
Well, Charry's idea is actually a simpler version of what they do on the Dragonfly Cave forums...there, you need to do
[sprite=gameversion]pokemonname[/sprite] just to get a sprite to appear. So yeah, it could work.

Joan - August 6, 2007 05:11 AM (GMT)
It took me a while to understand, but this is a good idea. That is mainly what I was worried about with the sprites, the fact that not many people are going to have the urls memorized. I am going to try this. *runs off to test*

Edit: Oh, man. It didn't work. :(

Charizard38 - August 6, 2007 09:54 AM (GMT)
The only way I could see it working is to re-edit the post after you've posted it. Methinks we should have a poll to see if everyone else likes this system, or wouldn't mind re-editing it.

EDIT: I'm going the dentist today, so while my teeth are aching, I'll have a look on the IFCode forums for something.

Well, it's not like they HAVE to use the tag.. it's an optional short cut that if they don't like it they could just ignore it. Probably somebody ignorant we like throwing rocks at anyway. : D

*throws rock*

Oh, good thinking Tabz, I never thought of that. You ARE useful for smething then XD
