phanpy and donphan are elephants
yanma is a dragonfly
zubat, golbat, and crobat are bats (no duh)
tauros is a bull

Charmander is supposedly Salamander-like, thus the name.

Totodile and it's evolutions switch between Aligators and Crocodiles, but pretty much those groups.

Wingull is obviously a seagull and Pelliper is a Pelican.

And Hypno is a hypnotist, even though that's more of an occupation, not a species.
