Title: Fight Fire with Fire
Description: And the Dennis comes in the NIIIIGHT!

W.T. - July 5, 2007 12:35 PM (GMT)
A certain night in early July, 1:23 AM
Dennis, having arrived in the Pyro Dunes, was just looking around, waiting for an in-joke to pop up... or a Pokémon would have been nice too. He got an idea. It wasn't too windy tonight, and the desert sand wasn't blowing around much at all. With his finger, he traced the words "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" in the red sand hill. He hoped that it would attract a high-tech trainer, or at least some wildlife. After a couple minutes of waiting, looking at the moon, he turned around & noticed that the words didn't seem to be there. Instead, bearing down on him was a large, vicious, fearsome...

Magmabuzz - July 5, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
...Vulpix? Yup, a small, adorable little Vulpix is standing in front of you. She smiles and begins to run circles around you. Just as you begin to think it's not so bad, it Quick Attacks you really hard out of the blue... Not so nice and adorable after all, huh?

W.T. - July 5, 2007 01:15 PM (GMT)
1:36 AM
I would like to change my Chimchar's name to Sarge, as it was the only other option besides going to military academy. By the way, a Vulpix has to be Level 11 to learn Quick Attack. How do we know what level the Vulpix is?

The only move Sarge had that would inflict any damage, as Dennis knew, was the Scratch. Yelling out the name of the attack as if he were himself a drill sergeant, Sarge quickly brushed his claw through the fire fox's 6 tails in succession.

Fire Starter - July 5, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
As of right now they can learn any attack at any level. Joan doesnt know if she will change this in the future or not.

As for the scratch attack.. not much damage there. The vulpix perks right back up and uses yet another quick attack.. not a nice little vulpix...

Also your pokemon's nickname is now updated.

... well it would be.. If you had a link to your profile in your signature. *cough*hint*cough*

W.T. - July 5, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
1:49 AM
No set levels yet, Dennis thought. In that case, I guess I could use a...
"Flame Wheel!!!" he yelled out at Sarge, giving him the OK sign to cheer him on. The powerful but irritable monkey quickly followed the orders and sent a circling wall of flowers straight into the fox's wake.

Magmabuzz - July 6, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
That one's going to be a hit. Unfortunately, it is a very weak hit at that. Vulpix seems to be keeping the trend of non-effectiveness with an Ember of it's own. Another poor hit. Vulpix quickly takes the opportunity to use Imprison though, preventing Chimchar from using many of the fire attacks available as well as a few others.

Fire Starter - July 6, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
The flame wheel.. did.. nothing. Vulpix's Special ability kicks in! Raising the attack power of its Fire type moves. Flash fire.. ouch.. burn :P

The vulpix played in the flames for abit before jumping out with another quick attack. Not very orgianal if you ask me.. but hey.. It works right?

Quick attack scores a nice hit.

----------

*to lazy to edit his post* But magmabuzz.. Flash fire special ability? Fire moves dont work on vulpix remember! *pokes*

W.T. - July 6, 2007 11:41 AM (GMT)
1:53 AM
"OK, Sarge, come back in!" Dennis decided he might as well use a Poké Ball... while he was still able. Vulpix's were not very hard to catch, unless they were Level 99 (which this one, I remind you, may or may not be). So he tossed the red-and-white clincher with a square hit. The Level ?? Vulpix was trapped inside. Then... it started wiggling.

Magmabuzz - July 6, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
(OOC: oops, I forgot. And I get the point that you want to know the level. I remind you that, according to the rules and stuff, the levels will be roughly the same as your pokemon. You would find out exactly once the pokemon is caught if you chose to do so. I mean, would you really know what level it was in real life if you came across it?)

The ball hits Vulpix and it is sucked in. After a few wiggles, it appears it will be caught. But at the last second it hops back out. You just missed catching that one. Another go at it should do it, and the pokeball is luckily still in good condition, so you could use it again.

W.T. - July 6, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
2:02 AM
The fox suddenly seems delighted; she is hopping around and making a ganching* noise. Sarge is none too pleased. "You'll be doing that again," Dennis tells her, "after you've arrived in my hands!"

The unbroken ball catches the :vulpix: in its clutches once again, rolls against a large cactus and begins to wiggle. From far away, Dennis now hears the rattling noise of plastic against brick as he sees a second Poké Ball rolling down the trail. It stops at his foot and breaks open to release a :rwbfinneon: named Persse O'Reilly, who tries to swim around in the sand -- I guess Finneon's are warm-blooded after all! Persse crawls back into the Poké Ball, now split in half along its two-coloured edge. Then he looks back over towards the cactus.

~Please don't advertise here. - Magmabuzz

Magmabuzz - July 6, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
Vulpix is once again absorbed into the pokeball. This time it's staying there! You've caught a level 4 :female: :vulpix: ! Do you want to give her a nickname?

From behind the cactus comes a :numel: . It seems to be bored, and takes an interest in you and your pokemon.

W.T. - July 6, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
2:18 AM
I will name the Vulpix Glinda after the Wizard of Oz character. And while you're writing the name in, can you please officially name my Chimchar Sarge? The name wasn't initially there.

--- --- --- --- --- --- ---

While the :numel: confronts Dennis for the first time in front of his very eyes, he sees a blimp flying overhead. Written on its side is the message, Watch for trainers!

Trainers... Dennis had somehow never thought of seeing one this early in his adventure across the land of Nanami. As he knew, around these parts, everyone's name started with the same letter as the town they were from. The nearest town was Kendor, so he could expect to see a Kevin, Keith, Kyle, or Kigalonian somewhere around. Looking forward, the lonely cacti blow in the cold desert-night wind. Dennis checks his watch, which reads 02:18. Dead time. There was no way a trainer could be anywhere around now.

With that said, Dennis sends Persse on to the field, and orders him off on a Water Gun, to which the camel-like creature has a 4x weakness. After it is hit by the Water Gun, Dennis cheers, "Yes! Yes!" and...

Hawkstorm - July 6, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
(OOC: Sure, I can update that for you :P )

The Numbel stumbled back weakly after being hit by the jet of water, and it sent a puff of smoke from the hole in it's back to cover itself.

Hm. Must have been a smokescreen attack. What will you do now?

W.T. - July 6, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
2:22 AM
"Withdraw!"
Dennis quickly holds the TARDIS-like red and white device (otherwise known as a Poké Ball) out for Persse, who returns into his ball.
"Go, Sarge!"
As he could see, Sarge was trying to bite his finger. He was just naturally bad-tempered and would get used to his new owner; he had only been in two battles so far, so he couldn't expect very much. And the whole Shadow Pokémon incident was before Chimchars had even been invented!
"Finish it off with Scratch!"
Wiggling Sarge off his finger, Dennis shooed the small monkey over towards the :numel:, but by accident, a long spike from the cactus cut Sarge right on his leg. With that, his mounting anger finally broke the surface and he shook his fist at the Numel before launching the move.

Hawkstorm - July 6, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
The Numel finalyl became upset as all the Chimchar's anger was unleashed on it. Taking a great deal of damage from the enraged scratch attack, it countered with an Ember attack.

Since Sarge was a fire type, this attack did very little damage.

W.T. - July 6, 2007 11:26 PM (GMT)
2:47 AM
"Now is the time!" Sarge, still running wild because of the gash made by the cactus, is captured by a Poké Ball and relaxes in the artificial hammockADBin the artificial trees of the artificial environment. Just then, Dennis tossed his Poké Ball -- his third of the night -- into the Numel's direct line of vision. With a scarlet flash, it began to wiggle around...

Hawkstorm - July 6, 2007 11:40 PM (GMT)
The ball swiveled in the rock-sand ground, and eventually stopped with a slight 'ping' noise.

Congratulations! You captured a Lv5 :male: Numel! Any Nicknames?

----------------------------

After your vailant capture, a young boy not much older than you wandered by.
"Wow! A trainer!" he said, looking at your pokeball. "Want to battle, 1 on 1?"

W.T. - July 7, 2007 11:50 AM (GMT)
3:00 AM
Quickly, Dennis decides to name the :numel: Howard. Then, he turns his gaze to the trainer.
"What's your name?" Dennis questions him. "And what the heck are you doing walking around the desert at 3 AM?"
He answers, "My name is Keshaun, and I'm here to rock on!"
Keshaun -> user posted image <- Keshaun
Dennis doesn't have time to compliment him on the rhyme (another rhyme). So he quickly yells for Howard to get on the field.
Keshaun gets out a Poké Ball and yells, "Go..."

Magmabuzz - July 8, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
"... Chinchou!" Chinchou appears out of the ball and glares at Numel.

"Chinchou, use Bubble." Chinchou releases a mouthful of bubbles that do supereffective damage to Numel.

W.T. - July 8, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
3:11 AM
"What the...!?" Dennis cries out loudly, but luckily, Keshaun doesn't seem to comprehend. Just then, a few of the bubbles hit Dennis' T-shirt -- and it's freezing cold in the lonely desert at night. Would he get hypothermia? Luckily, he forgets about it when the ground begins to shake for no apparent reason at all. The ALL YOUR BASE message on the red sand dune next to him becomes a swirling cloud of dust as Howard unleashes a Magnitude, without any order from Dennis at all, on the opponent.

Magmabuzz - July 8, 2007 05:01 PM (GMT)
Magnitude 6! Not like it matters. Chinchou receives some super effective damage.

"Chinchou, hang on. Use Supersonic now." The randomizer dislikes you as Numel becomes confused.

W.T. - July 8, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
(Can you please name my :numel: Howard?)

3:18 AM
Dennis realizes that, having just started out on his quest, he does not have any items which will be able to heal Howard's galloping confusion. But he's lucky that everyone received a full-strength, fortified Potion before they left into the great wilderness. At least if the attack fails, he'll be able to stand up on his own two feet, he imagines. Dennis sprayed the blue mist on Howard and he was refreshed to full health.
"Now, Howard..." Dennis begins.
"Hey, wait! It ain't your turn, sucka!" Keshaun yells, picks up some sand and throws it in his face.
Oh, well, Dennis thinks, at least it's not as bad as that old food in my school cafeteria.
The :chinchou: is now glowing, and quickly executes a _______ on the newly recharged Howard.

Magmabuzz - July 9, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
I thought I allready did. I'll get to it.

Chinchou unleashes another bubble on Numel. Some more x4 damage done there! Luckily, the potion helped Numel greatly. Numel yelps in pain, rolling back on his hind legs. When it return's to all fours, he has a glint in his eyes.

W.T. - July 9, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
(Please note: My journey includes the words zie and zir; they mean "he or she" and "his or her.")

3:33 AM
At this moment, Dennis paused to review what he had accomplished so far. He had almost finished the first route on his itinerary, and he had four Pokémon. He thought of how each one of the four had zir own personality. Howard was happy, outgoing and optimistic during battle. Sarge was strong and confident, but he had a short fuse and lashed out at the wildlife. Persse was inventive and had an active imagination, but he always seemed to be down in the dumps; and Glinda was low-key, passive and indifferent, not really caring about battles.

Howard was showing no sign of getting tired out; he was applauding himself on (?) as he launched a Take Down which struck the :chinchou: with a glancing blow.

Magmabuzz - July 13, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
(Sorry about the wait. You're pushing it a little close as for as controling things...)

Numel does indeed perform Take Down on Chinchou, doing some decent damage to Chinchou and some damage to Numel as well. Ouch.

"Chinchou, that Bubble is doing wonders. Do it again." Chinchou unleashes some more bubbles. Ooooh. Anyway, some decent x4 damage is done there.

W.T. - July 14, 2007 11:05 AM (GMT)
4:00 AM
Now, looking back on the landscape behind him, Dennis understood that he had been walking for the whole course of the battle, and Keshaun had been tagging along in front of him. He was now within earshot of the Mayapyre Clock Tower. Every town had a bell tower at its church, of course, but as he knew, this one was one of the few and proud that played music along with every ring. Dennis had to interleave his commands with the 4 AM toll of the bells.
No, this is not a subliminal message.
Key: Black = The bells, Red = Dennis.
Why does everyone want subliminal messages?!
DING dang Ding dong...
"Now, Howard!"
dong Dang DING dong...
"Go out and..."
DING DANG Dung dong...
"get 'em!"
DONG Dang DING dong...
"Finish off that :chinchou:"
DONG!
"Show him with..."
DONG!
"your..."
DONG!
"Earthquake!"
DONNNGGGG!
"Now!!!"
Quit it! Quit it! Quit poking around!
And so you have it so there it is. Howard's next assault on Chinchou consisted of an Earthquake, gifted by the old Technical Machine that Howard had used up so long ago.

Magmabuzz - July 16, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
(Walking? Clock tower? You wouldn't be walking during a battle, and please don't add a clock like that.)

Numel performs the Earthquake, sending all of you to the ground. Chinchou is nearly fainted!

"Chinchou, don't give up. Use Surf!" Chinchou rides the waves, doing some great damage to your Numel.

W.T. - July 16, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
(Why shouldn't I add a clock?)

4:04 AM
"OK, Howard!" Dennis uttered to the speedily wearing-down camel. "You've done your part. Go Glinda!" The weak but lowly-expected Level 4 :vulpix: materialized and was, strangely enough, ready for action. "Quickly, before our turn ends... use your last leg to win the battle!" Glinda started to hop up and down and morble on the swirling night wind. "Quick Attaaaaaack!"

Hawkstorm - July 19, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
(Because Magmabuzz said so =o )

Chinchou was hit by the Quick Attack, and it landed on the soft sand with a light thud. It managed to get back up, however.

"Chinchou, use bubble!" The trainer called, and his Pokemon unleashed a stream of bubbles that glimmered in the moonlight. It wasn;t pretty, though, when the bubbles hit Vulpix doing some super effective damage.

W.T. - July 19, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)
4:13 AM
The war waged on. And still the sun was down. Dennis liked this, battling at night; he got a real sense of "no rules" out of it. And stiller the weakened Glinda and Chinchou, almost ready to sleep now, battled it out. He was going to win. He just knew. And looking at the Ethereal Realm sign ahead, he knew no one could fail him now.

Meanwhile, Dennis and Keshaun were yabbering next to a tree.
Dennis told him, "I don't wanna go to Mayapyre on the quickfast. I want to get some experience on the other side..."
Keshaun told him, "Well, if you're wandering around there, watch out for Marileena. She's beautiful, but she can pack a punch if you're not careful. You'd better be on the lookout for anyone suspicious."
"Suspicious? She's not a dark wizard, is she?"
"Well, you'll just have to find out.
You need to see what she's about."
Aah, back to the old chestnut rhyming.

We were now closing in on 5:00 and the sky ahead was beginning to turn pink. The great city was very dark as people from all suburbs were rising to drive to work. Dennis was ready for what was likely to be the final order of the fight.
"Finish that darned lightfish off wither!" said Dennis, in slight dialect. "Ember!!"

Magmabuzz - July 28, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
Chinchou managed a quick Spark attack, doing some fairly poor damage to Glinda. Your Vulpix unleashed an Ember and, allthough incredibly poor damage was done, it was enough to knock out the weakened Chinchou. Glinda gained a level and .5 happiness! Keshaun, realizing that Chinchou had fainted, took it's pokeball and returned it. He then grabbed another one and released a Bidoof.

"Let's see you beat Bidoof!" he announced in anger.

W.T. - July 29, 2007 10:25 PM (GMT)
4:40 AM
"Yeah! Way to go Glinda!" Dennis announced joyfully. Suddenly, Keshaun took the Chinchou, which was now going a shade of purple and getting stiff. Was this just tiredness... or was it rigor mortis? Quickly, Keshaun checked for a heartbeat. A beat registered; it was just very slow and unconscious. In a flash of light, he materialized (or whatever the right word is) off the field, as did Glinda.

Dennis had laid his backpack by the foot of the tree, now turning pink with the dawning sun and the Mayapyre clock's toll
1 . . . . . . . . . . !
3 . . . . . . . . . . 5?
when he took it out and gasped with shock! On the strap containing all the Poké Balls, he saw one for Sarge, one for Howard, one for Glinda, one for Persse, and... What?!? What was this fifth Poké Ball? As it turns out, it was not only a new Pokémon, but it was at Level 10... and it was EXACTLY the one which could save his hide right now. With a huge whoop, Dennis yelled at Keshaun, "Introducing - - - Makaa the :machop:! You're goin' down!!!"

Without any prompting from him at all, the human-like creature launched a 2x-effective Karate Chop straight into the face of the opposing team.

Fire Starter - August 4, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
Bidoof was hit hard but not out just yet! It came back with an all powerfull, superly uneffective tackle attack ;P had you going didnt I? xDD

W.T. - August 13, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
5:11 AM
"Great joke," Dennis commented. He wasn't positive that he had rudely shattered through the fourth wall, but it probably did take some serious scratching damage. He felt oddly "outside" now... was it the blustering wind or the fact that he had just made a shout-out to the appropriately named DD mod who had mocked him?

At the top of his voice, Dennis delivered a shriek toward the human-shaped Makaa:
"DO-DO-DO IT AGAIN!"

Magmabuzz - August 15, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
Your Machop rushed forward and smashed it's hands into Bidoof, doing some more decent damage. Keshaun looked worried.

"Bidoof, use Pluck." Bidoof nodded and rushed forward, stabbing at the berry that Machop didn't have. So there was no extra damage done, but still some okay super effectiveness. Apparently they had been practicing that strange move, because Bidoof hadn't questioned Keshaun one bit and had executed it perfectly.

W.T. - August 23, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
5:24 AM
"Now, finish that zealot off with a last Karate Chop!" ... "Makaa?"
The small guy was shaking his head and uttering something that sounded roughly like "Ko...?"
"Ko...? What the heck is that supposed to mean?" Dennis quietly insisted.
"Ko!" Now he was bellowing. "Mako!"
"Wha-a-a-a-a-at?" Dennis leaped backwards. "I've had you for over TWO HOURS, and I haven't learned your name yet!?"
"Mako!" Mako told Dennis, which meant something along the lines of, "I'll take your word for it."
"Well, you must be tired. Back into the Poké Ball with you."
Dennis deployed the red and white ball, which sucked the now-named Mako inside to max and re-lax.

"I'm calling all Howards! Calling all down today!"
He didn't know why he had just selected Howard to enter the field. Maybe his Poké Ball had been wiggling irregularly for a while?
"Flamethrower, Howard!" Dennis commanded. "Show that Bidoof what for!"

Tenshi - August 29, 2007 11:52 AM (GMT)
Howard smiled and nodded you could tell Howard understood the given command. Looking at the chubby Bidoof, Howard unleashed a fiery breathe and sent a big flare towards the Pokémon causing it not only to be fairly damaged but also to be Burned doing a little extra damage. Bidoof winced and closed it's eye tight trying hard not to give up, it stood up and curled into a ball, it was about to use Rollout!

W.T. - August 31, 2007 10:52 AM (GMT)
5:49 AM
Although the temperature in the Pyro Dunes at this time of dawn (Halp! More!) was only a little above the freezing point, the rivalry was definitely heating up between Dennis and Keshaun. The eccentric mix of heat and cold was starting to give Howard the shivers, and toward the end, he began to turn blue like cerulean (not Cerulean City, he hates that place). To help him recover from the cold and rev up for battle, Dennis fed Howard a muffin. Not until well after the volcanic camel had choked it down did he realize that it had been... mystical? Howard's already blue skin was beginning to shine with a purplish glow. (Or at least, in the red sky of the sunrise, it looked purple.) He was mystic, but Dennis had not the faintest idea what mystic meant. Oh, well, he thought. Some questions are better left unanswered.

"Man, is that Bidoof stacked with infinite health?" Keshaun started to demand. "Oh, well. Howard, Magnitude!"

Angie - September 1, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
(You meant "Dennis started to..." correct?)

Howard, whom was now a Mystical Numel, nodded his head at you, accepting the command. He closed his eyes, charging up for the extremely violent earthquake that was about to happen. The moment Howard opened his eyes, they were flaming red(most likely reflecting from a small bush fire a few feet away) and the Magnitude attack was unleashed. It was causes an extreme amount of damage to the opposing Pokemon. The Bidoof fell over, twitching a little, and then got up again. The heat between the two Pokemon was almost as hot as the heat between the two trainers. The Bidoof's mind was really flaming. You could see it by the way he looked at Howard. Howard had the same expression, and was ready to try and dodge anything Bidoof threw at him. Though, this battle was far from over, very far.

Bidoof looked over at Howard, waiting for his trainer's command. Keshaun grinned as he gave the word on which attack to use, "Use Aqua Tail, Bidoof!" Bidoof nodded and started running towards Howard. Howard tried desperately to dodge, but it was almost impossible, for Aqua Tail rarely misses, being the quick attack that it is. The attack hit your Numel, causing him some pain. He recovered, but looked even more upset at the Bidoof that before, if that was indeed possible. Your turn.

W.T. - September 26, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
6:24 AM
It may be or may be a not concern of the trainers, but even the unusually passive Howard seemed to have an angry air towards this ever-surviving Bidoof. Mysteries, Dennis thought. He knew. The Mysterious Egg in his backpack Was. He knew. Starting to shake. What would hatch from it? He hoped it wouldn't go 'bad'... but he shook the thought off and diverted his attention toward the steaming battle. "You've come all the way, Howard!" Dennis intoned quickly. "Try to end it right here and now! Gather all your courage... even here, on the first route, what's to get in your way? All right, Howard, take him to the cleaners....
EARRRTHQUAAAKE!!"
