Title: Let's Hear It!
Description: RPG Revision Suggestions
Joan - March 24, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
No, the site is not dead, and neither am I. Sorry if that disappoints anyone. :P
Anyway, I want to hear from you.
What did you like about the RPG? What didn't you like about the RPG? What improvements could be made? Please explain your comments. My goal here is to work on the RPG during this downtime and make the RPG better than ever.
Don't worry. You won't hurt my feelings by saying the RPG was boring, unoriginal, or whatever else. I know the RPG wasn't perfect, but hopefully with your input, it will get closer.
I have already talked to the staff about this. I don't want to give too many details, but here are a few things we've come up with.
1) The routes and towns will be undergoing a complete revision. I may or may not keep some of the same names.
2) There will be a background story. This is one of the major things the RPG has always lacked.
3) Overall, the RPG will be shorter. Previously, no one was even halfway through the RPG, even though the site is now almost three years old.
4) You will have more choices of where you want to go, rather than just going from point A to point B to point C.
5) Sidequests are also getting a makeover.
Post away with your comments!
W.T. - March 24, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
I think that we should be able to get fourth-generation Pokémon in the RPG's new revision. Uploading fourth-gen sprites would be a very good idea right about now.

Yes, those will be available. However, I can't add them as emoticons like I have with all the other Pokemon. I'll have to upload them to my Photobucket account and we'll use the IMG tag to link to them. I seem to have reached the limit of the number of emoticons I can upload.
Suppi - March 24, 2007 07:18 AM (GMT)
I was thinking it would be cool if DD became a Ranger-like roleplay. I tried to make one and I got pretty far in making it but I'm too lazeh xD! Good luck in this Joan, PM me if you need help x)
Joan - March 24, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
The last Pokemon games I played were Sapphire and Ruby, so I'm not real familiar with Ranger. (I'm always behind the times!) But I was reading about it and it sounds cool. It sounds more interesting than just going around capturing Pokemon to become the best trainer. I will consider that.
I still have to get caught up on the latest generation of Pokemon.

Green_Charizard - March 25, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
I have a suggestion! A lame one, but still a suggestion. You could make two different RPG, that both will lead to Dragonairs den, but in different ways, with different problems. For example one you must do as a tainer, and the other like, for example, a ranger. But they can be different in more than those ways.
Kane - March 25, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
yay the rpg might be coming back. I was only in it for awhile but it was still great.
Akakentatsu - March 25, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
That'd be sweet. I had this wicked idea that relates to this and will hopefully spark an idea or two.
Ok. It's a DS Pokemon game. You come to the start after the tutorial. There is all the Professors talking with Spencer and Drew. Then Giovanni busts through the roof. Then you come in. They're all like, "Could it be? The prophecy?" and you can choose who you want to go with.
Blaziken93 - March 26, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
Well, a Ranger one might not be that good of an idea. Since you could only have one Pokemon to begin with that you could call your own, and can't keep any others that you capture. Plus how would you be able to catch one here anyways? But I defenetly want the RPG opened soon.

They don't let you keep what you catch? Well, we will definitely let you keep what you catch here. What I meant was I like the idea of having some goal other than to just be the best trainer.
Green Charizard and Akakentatsu, I think I understand what you mean - different paths with different goals. That sounds like a good idea.
I was expecting to hear ranting and raving from everyone saying that the RPG was terrible. :XD: Continue posting comments.
Magmabuzz - April 2, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
*loves the RPG* You don't understand how upset I was when you rid of the RPG. Granted I didn't have to try to post to 3 million (exagerated) posts a day, but still, I loved it all the same. I definitely think you should bring it back. I just wish tere was someway to try to fix it so that we don't get the same problem that killed the RPG previously.
Fire Starter - April 2, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
It was horrible! It was horrindous! It was.. well I am out of long 'h' words right now but you get my point! xD jk.
uh.. yeah o.o.. go team?! ... xD *is SOOOOOo pointless right now -.-'*

Yep, that's what I'm hoping to fix.
Also, the daycare will be revamped, along with everything else. You'll have to pay ahead of time for the daycare, and there will be a limit on the amount of time you can keep them in there per month. So people won't end up with level 90 pokemon that they didn't work for and can't afford. :XD:

WhizzKidd - April 10, 2007 10:50 PM (GMT)
Hm...
Was there a Safari Zone in the RPG? That'd be cool.
*out of ideas*
Hei-Ying-Shih - April 12, 2007 10:53 AM (GMT)
Could we keep our old Pokes? I want to...
Also, could we let our NPC partners have Pokemon? But we would have to earn them, e.g. we get a Pokemon in a promo and give it to our partner. The only "extra" one would be a starter given to our partner.
Charizard38 - April 15, 2007 01:54 PM (GMT)
Hmm.. methinks I should have a go at some suggestions.
Well, first, hows about the legends island that never was? Joan seemed to like it at the time, and shock horror! It's still there! Or rather,
here!I agree that the game should lose it's linear format - the players can choose what they do. They can choose to fight, or simply say hello to a passing trainer. (However, if someone dodges every battle, a you can just force them into a battle). However, this could have a blow to the 15-word rule, as a response might be 15 words long. Maybe players should still have to write a short dialgoue on what's happening (like W.T. does in my RPG, just not as long XD)
Also, maybe, in the thread/profile pages, there can be how the battle is going, and how your pokemon are fareing. I might look like this.
Current Battle: Trainer Bob
:charizard: :blastoise:
(FAINTED) :venusaur: (In Battle)
Charizard38
:charmander: (In Battle)
HP:
WeakStatus: OK
:meowth:
HP:
StrongStatus:
ParalyzedEtc. Although not as colorful if the mods prefer.
I'll post more as I come up with it.
EDIT!:

Hmm... that's given me an idea. Hows about you can choose what sort of trainer you will be i.e. Cool Trainer, Kindler, Swimmer, Rich Boy/Girl etc. and each one has a different path The Cool Trainers are.. cool, Kindlers can only start with Fire and Ground types but slightly better ones than usual, Swimmers only Oceanic types, a Rich Kid's a bit of everything. An example:
Cool Trainer can choose:
Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Pikachu, Clefairy or Meowth
Kindler can choose:
Charmander, Torkoal, Geodude or Slugma
Swimmer can choose:
Squirtle, Horsea, Staryu or Seel
Rich Kid can choose:
Same as Cool Trainer
ANd each one has a different story line, before they all meet somewhere relatively early in the game (say, what Luau town used to be) to continue. For instance:
The Cool rainer has cool parents, that get him a basic pokemon of his choice. He takes an average storyline to the meeting point
The Kindler's parents catch theirs from where they live, and he has to make a trip over a volcano with lots of Fire/Ground types to the Meeting Point
The Swimmer catch them from in the Sea, and has to swim to the meeting poit (Luau is trpoical, remember?) (creative)
The Rich Kid gets driven their by his parents, but misses out on training opputunities.
I also think the games of players should merge somewhat - take the people who are paired with each other. They could be say, friends, who like a friendly battle every time they meet. And maybe you can randomly see another playr of the RPG, and can choose to trade, battle, talk etc.
This of course, is only if the RPG starts again. As in, the profiles restart. Not that I want that to happen.

On the site I am currently making ( i've decided to start making it again xD! ) you can have three pokemon in your team. All other pokemon you can catch go in your pc. I have a certain area where you can catch pokemon, and if there not in that area then you have to release them x)
Joan - April 22, 2007 07:10 AM (GMT)
Yay, replies!
Whizzkid: Nope, we didn't have a Safari Zone. I haven't decided yet whether we'll have something like that.
Hei-Ying-Shih: Yes, you'll be able to keep all your old Pokemon, items and money. Unless of course, you choose to start over completely. I don't want to imagine how much hate mail I would get if I made everyone start over completely. :XD: The only thing you will lose is any badges you have earned. One reason for that is the towns and routes will be changing. Secondly, there will be no badges in the new RPG. There will be something much more interesting for you to collect.
Since the routes and towns will be changing, everyone will start at the beginning on a new journey, but with the Pokemon they already have.
I will take it into consideration about NPC's having Pokemon.
Charizard38: Wow, where to start? I guess the beginning. :P
About the Legends Island, I think there is a very good chance that I can incorporate that or something similar to it into the RPG.
You'll have more freedom in this newer version of the RPG to do what you want. You can be good, evil, or somewhere in between. That is a good idea about allowing the trainer to choose whether to battle.
About showing the status of Pokemon during the battle, that is a good idea. I had thought of doing something like that. I haven't worked on this part much yet. I've been doing the background story first.
I also haven't yet decided whether there will be different types of trainers. But there will be opportunities for you to interact more with other members.
Suppi: I think my brain just melted trying to understand what you just said there. :XD:
W.T. - April 22, 2007 10:50 AM (GMT)
I think Charizard38's suggestions are the best of all of them. (No offense to the rest...)
Trainer classes are one of my favourite parts of the game; I've always enjoyed tracking them down. I think I might have a few to add:
Camper / Picnicker -- only Grass types
Hex Maniac -- only Dark & Ghost types
Black Belt / Battle Girl -- only Fighting types
Hiker -- only Rock, Ground & Steel types
And the one-word name of the trainer class who likes Psychic types the best (I forget what it was, LOL)!
Charizard38 - April 22, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
*Appreciate W.T.'s compliment*
I did only mean a few of them, for an example. Otherwise, I'd have been here all day. And... *looks at match call*
You forget Psychic (for Psychic)
Guitarist (for Electric)
Schhol Kid (Anything Basic)
Bird Keeper (Flying)
Dragon Tamer (*Forgets*)
Pokemon Breeder (Anything Decent, but at a lower level)
And a few others. Not that we have to encorparte ALL of them

Were you being sarcastic about Dragon Tamers? Dragon, of course! XD
And a Ranger-style RPG would be interesting...
Also, I've seen some RPs that let you choose any unevolved non-legendary as your starter, but there are some restrictions.
Examples:
-Any starter that is not one of the normal starters can only be chosen once.
-To get a rare, you must write a literate RP in the Lab.
W.T. - April 23, 2007 09:42 AM (GMT)
OK, so seventeen trainer classes would probably be enough. That's one for every type. In correct mechanical order, the types and classes are:
Normal: Youngster (for boys); Lass (for girls)
Fire: Kindler (for boys); Pokéfan (for girls)
Water: Swimmer (for both boys & girls)
Electric: Guitarist (for boys); Cooltrainer (for girls)
Grass: Camper (for boys); Aroma Lady (for girls)
Ice: Collector? (for boys); Beauty (for girls)
Fighting: Black Belt (for boys); Battle Girl (for girls)
Poison: Ninja Boy (for boys); School Kid (for girls)
Ground: Hiker (for boys); Picnicker (for girls)
Flying: Bird Keeper (for boys)
Psychic: Psychic (for both boys & girls)
Bug: Bug Catcher (for boys)
Rock: Pokémaniac (for boys)
Ghost: Expert (for boys); Hex Maniac (for girls)
Dragon: Dragon Tamer (for boys)
Dark: Cooltrainer (for boys)
Steel: Pokémon Breeder (for both boys & girls)
Hei-Ying-Shih - April 23, 2007 10:44 AM (GMT)
Why can only boys be Bird Keepers, Dragon Tamers, etc.? Stereotypes! All types should be availible to all members if you use this method.

I think that a bit overdoing it. Certain types pair up (Fire and Ground, Water and Ice, Ghost and Dark, Grass and Poison): poor Joan has to d it all, and rumpur has it she has a life outside DD (lol, j/k). We only want 6 or 7 max.

Even this way, should their level be brought to the minimum?
I personally thinks it would be fair if we all starts from the beginning, as beating, say, the first gym with all level 15 Pokemon who were brought from the previous level would be quite unfair for those who have to train their level 5 starter.
Also, maybe it would be good to set a number of Pokemon you can bring from your old profile. Maybe put the 'discarded' Pokemon into adoption, so they can be retrieved someway.
I don't know, it seems fairer to me toward the new members

Or, the levels of the gym leaders could be directly proportinate to their levels.
Fire Starter - April 28, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
I like your Level idea Charizard. Say you have a level 89 Tyranitar.. (O.M.G. x.x i hope not.. xD) Then the first gym would have say A Level 90 pokemon or 2.. ya see? And it all depends on the pokemon you use. Say you have a level 89 tyranitar but you toss out a level 20 Pikachu.. Bam. Level 21 pokemon insted.. o_O...

Yeah, but if you change Pokemon during the battle? You toss that level 20 Pikachu and the Gym Leader a level 21 Umbreon, then you change Pikachu with the level 89 Tyranytar, and the Umbreon? Does he go up of 68 levels in three seconds :sweatdrop: ?

Maybe the level could be proportionate to your strongest Pokemon, or you can't switch until one of the battling Pokemon faints...
Joan - April 30, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
I like that idea about the gym leader's levels being proportionate to the trainer's highest level Pokemon. And it just stays that level the entire battle. I don't want a situation like this:
Trainer: Go, Pikachu! (level 5)
Gym Leader: Go, Charmander! (also level 5)
Trainer: Return, Pikachu. Go, Raichu! (level 95)
Gym Leader: *squished*
I think I would prefer to keep everyone's Pokemon at their current levels. The stronger trainers would have stronger opponents to balance it out. I'll take a look at people's profiles and see if I want to do this, though. Some people have one or two really strong Pokemon from daycare, then the rest are level 5 or so.
It might be a good idea to limit the number of pokemon as Darin suggested. I have 34 Pokemon, most of which I probably will not keep. Many of our dedicated members have 15 to 30. I haven't made up my mind about that, but I'll give it consideration.
The trainer classes I'm not sure about. I wouldn't want trainer class to affect a person's starter pokemon. Maybe someone wants to be a Cooltrainer but doesn't want to start with a dark Pokemon. But other than that, I'm not sure what trainer classes would be used for. I'm trying to set up the new RPG in a way that people have more freedom rather than having to fit into preset categories.
Hei-Ying-Shih - May 2, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
For the daycare incident, I would suggest this:
Daycare Rule: You can only use one Pokemon raised by Daycare per gym battle, and never in trainer battles.
Or something like that.

The RPG was taken down for a few months toward the end of last year because I felt I needed a break from it. But eventually I just decided to redo the whole thing. The old RPG hasn't been deleted, but I have hidden it so that members don't get confused and think that it's open.
I understand that it's difficult to make suggestions when you haven't seen the old RPG. This post was aimed at the members who were here long enough to play the old RPG.
The RPG is pretty much starting anew. If you really want to make suggestions but haven't experienced the old RPG, you can give me suggestions that you might make to someone creating a new RPG. I am still open to a lot of different possibilities at this point.
If you can't think of any suggestions, don't worry about it. I have plenty of ideas to keep me busy right now.
Charizard38 - May 16, 2007 05:37 AM (GMT)
Oops... I went off again. Got addicted to Civ III. Sorry y'all.
Ok, I see Joan's point about the trainer classes, but hws about everyone can just choose who they want to be, to put on their profile?
W.T. - May 16, 2007 09:25 AM (GMT)
I have an idea that I dug out of Diamond/Pearl regarding level differences. The idea is that when you enter the building, all your levels will be temporarily set to 50, and they will be changed back as soon as you leave.
~Shadow Fox~ - May 21, 2007 06:00 AM (GMT)
yeah, but maybe that could be an optional thing, decide your, lets say, four guys to be set to level 50, just so you have some strong guys still... but i still havn't seen the rpg...*cries*
could someone send me a pm with the link to the main rpg
Joan - July 3, 2007 07:19 AM (GMT)
I suppose this would be a good time to close the suggestions since the RPG will be reopening soon. Thank you all for your comments. *sneaks away* :sneaky:
